Unlike Northern Europe, Japan goes dark early in the evening regardless of the season. It's a unique
opportunity after the day is done, to record the sights and sounds of the city by night. Tokyo and Osaka are famous for their neon cityscapes, but I prefer the intimacy the illumination of doorways and windows of houses, bars, convenience stores and empty businesses provide.
Its a voyeuristic endeavour, partly peaceful, a little exciting and depending on the area you choose potentially dangerous. These nocturnal adventures
exploring and recording the everyday and perhaps intimate moments of peoples lives are amongst my favourite times in Japan.
