David is an award winning British designer. He founded design studio The Division with his partner Nicole in 2003. Based in London, he lived in San Francisco for a decade and has traveled extensively across Asia.
He takes pictures as a record of everyday life, of places, objects and people that are part of his personal journey and that inspire his design work and thinking. Photographers he admires include Daido Moriyama and Martin Parr both for their focus on real life and all its faults, humour and absurdity.
He first visited Japan in 1996 and after well over 100 visits it has become his second home. He speaks Japanese, is a visiting Professor at Kanazawa Art College, loves Japanese crafts, has travelled the length and breadth of the country and visits onsen baths whenever he can. During this time he has amassed 1000's of photographs, a fraction of which have been exhibited and you can see here. He hopes you will learn something about Japan while enjoying his pictures.
